Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu

Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu is the film which stars Kamal Hassan in the lead role with Jyothika and Prakashraj. This film is basically a thriller and there are lot of scenes in this movie that shows the director's touch. There is one scene where Kamal Hassan will write out the suspects in white board in New York for his colleague and he writes in Tamil then immediately realizes it and erases it and writes in English.

In another scene when he was outside the suspects' apartment - he asks if we can break in for a search - the New York guy says no we need a warrant and Kamal says we do it all the time in India. It appeared to me that the director is in a hurry to show the villain’s face before intermission. I mean he did build a huge expectation, but after intermission the film gets a bit slow. Overall it is a very good attempt in Tamil Cinema.

Global Warming

Each and every one of us knows that Global Warming has already started. Despite knowing this some are instantly cutting down trees without planting any. The remaining are running large factories and industries creating tons of Carbon monoxide and Carbon dioxide which are the main greenhouse gases responsible for this phenomenon.

Its time to prevent this mass destruction and it’s our turn to think how it can be done. Two very common ways are planting more trees and the other is limited and judicious use of fossil fuels. An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause other changes, including a rising sea level and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. These changes may increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes, and tornados. Other consequences include higher or lower agricultural yields, glacier retreat, reduced summer stream flows, species extinctions and so on.

Another Masterpiece

Mysskin has proved yet again as he strongly believed in his script rather than the actors. Such an excellent movie it has turned out to be. You couldn’t expect what’s next and you have unexpected twist in the storyline. The heroine, though she doesn’t have a big role, she has done her work neatly. Pandiyarajan, claims full credit, with his big specs and he resembles a notorious villain. Kuruvi, the handicap has done well though he makes you feel that he has over acted in certain scenes.

Technically, there were in total of four songs, out of which one comes as a title number. Two folk songs were good. One heroine dream sequence comes along the storyline which is not necessary. Regarding camera work, he has used semi angular shot sequence and running motion technology which adds more reality to the story. Art has no work here as least sets were used by the director. Background music is good in the movie; especially the silence number is used in most thrilling scenes. Director Mysskin proved his talents as a distinctive filmmaker in his maiden venture ‘Chithiram Pesuthadi’ itself. This is again a masterpiece from the director.

Entertainer!!

Vikatan group's re-entry into movie world with Siva Manasula Sakthi (SMS) starring Jeeva & Anuya is a good entertainer for the valentine weekend. Movie doesn't pretend to be a classic or a trend-setter & the makers have clearly envisioned their target audience & made it only keeping them in mind. Jeeva breezes through a lively & light-hearted role of a boy next door. He has tried many voice modulations though not pleasant every time, it is a worthy attempt . He does tend to go over the top when he tries to behave very locally but that is a minor aberration in an overall good performance.

Surprisingly the heroine is good at histrionics and her hard work at mouthing the Tamil dialogues shows. However she must take care to shed the extra adipose in some inappropriate areas of her body. Santhanam has done a stupendous job in this movie after a long time. Every frame he is on screen brings the roof down with laughter. His sojourn with the mobile phones & the bar episodes are bound to challenge your facial muscles. Arya comes as a pleasant surprise in a guest role. Urvasi is another strong support to the cast. Overall, it is a complete entertainer with the right mix of romance and comedy.

South Africa Take Series Lead!!

South Africa take series lead after their win in the third One-day International against Australia. Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers shared a century partnership to make it comfortable for South Africa to take a lead in the five match series. South Africa made 289 for six in their 50 overs with the valuable contributions from Kallis and De Villiers. Since South Africa kept wickets in hand, they were able to score 94 off the last 10 overs. Though Australia struggled to win the game, they ended up scoring 264 for seven. South African captain, Graeme Smith praised the performance of Johan Botha and Van der Merwe who helped South Africa by strangling the Australian batsmen in the middle overs of the Australian innings.

The Australian skipper Ricky Ponting tried to survive the South African bowling attack, but was eventually out for 20. Van der Merwe, who is playing in his second One-day International ended with the excellent figures of 3 for 37. The part-time spinner JP Duminy took the wicket of David Hussey who was caught at long-on. Johan Botha took the wicket of the Australian Skipper while Van der Merwe took the wickets of Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey in one over.

Nice Entertainer!!

Thiruvilayadal Aarambam is a perfect entertainer which stars Dhanush and Shreya in the lead roles. It is a movie which has all the flavors like comedy, action, love and a very good screenplay. Dhanush has yet again proved that he can do his best in comedy and love sequences. Though the story is a kind of already seen type, the screenplay has been tuned very well by the director. The dialogues are the major highlights of the film. The songs composed by Imman are good. Comedy has worked out well for Dhanush in this film as well.

Dhanush has showed once again to the world that he is good at choosing scripts which are liked by the audience. Nowadays, he is choosing the roles that suit him perfectly. He has done his part very well without over doing any scene of the film. Prakashraj who has acted as the brother of Shreya has done extremely well. The credit has to be given to the Director as well for writing some entertaining dialogues. On the whole, it is a well made entertainer.

World's Best Player!

Virender Sehwag has been termed as the leading cricketer of the world in 2008 by Wisden. Wisden which is termed as cricket’s Bible has declared this in its 146th edition. In 2008, Sehwag smashed 319 off 304 balls against South Africa which is the fastest triple century ever. He was also responsible for the only Test win in Srilanka last year by scoring unbeaten 201 against the host team. The series otherwise turned out to be a nightmare for India. No other batsman has achieved more mental domination over the bowlers other than Sehwag in 2008.

Indian fans have one more reason to rejoice. Wisden’s Test XI has five Indian cricketers while no other country has more than two players. Also, MS Dhoni has been named as the team’s captain. The team also includes Sachin Tendulkar who has been performing consistently well for India, over the years. The other players from India who are in Wisden’s Test XI are Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh.
